My Gallery of Creations

I am taking this opportunity of having my own site (grin) to put up some of my own handcrafted jewelry and crafts. I will try to catalogue them as best I can for ease of access. There will usually be quite a lot of pictures of the same item from different angles. Not so much for show and tell as for my own personal record in case I need to make something similar or have forgotten how something was done.

I will probably host gallery of other artists' work later or just general gallery of images (when I get time).

All my handmade works are one-offs. This is not so much to make them rare as that I seem to be incapable of sitting down and making the same thing over and over again. All handmades are unique just because they are made by hand. But mine are such that using the same pattern or same colours without significant variation, puts my small brain to sleep. Hence - one offs!

Felting

Felting seems to be a growing trend at the moment. I came across this before I discovered how trendy it has become. I originally just wanted to make one item for myself and this technique seemed like it could be my answer to what I had in mind. However, it has hooked me in completely and I can't seem to stop!

I started in about July 2009 and since then I seem either to be googling felting articles or shopping for supplies or making felting items or just dreaming (literally) about it! What I am doing at the moment is technically called "fulling" rather than felting though the latter term is used by most to also cover "fulling".

Because I have been a lifelong bead-a-holic, I tend to incorporate many beads in my felted designs.

Autumn Nights

Autumn Nights - Beaded Handknit Felted HandBag

Autumn Nights (CC15)

This night glam bag grew out of a desire to finally get into needle felting. The design was inspired by the autumn season. It pictures simple leaves in their resplendent autumn colours against a black background, symbolic of the night sky. And as the night skies are lighted up by the brilliance of the twinkling stars, this is made so by the generous sprinkling of Swarovski Crystal beads and elements.

	Front view of the Autumn Nights bag. Leaves and streaming green waves are free hand drawn with wool tops and needle felted down. Embellished further with sparkly seed and bugle beads. Some Work Details

Bag is knitted, sewn up and then fulled (felted). Needle felting to create the green 'waves' and the solid leaves. Design is free hand drawn as the work progresses using 1 (felting)needle and the corresponding colors for the draw up stage.

Beads are done with the peyote stitch. Instead of using tubular peyote, these are rolled and joined: they are worked to the correct length and then the 'up and down' of the beaded row is match with the first row and joined together.

Bag is lined with a funky retro canvas fabric for that extra unexpected touch of color.

Beaded Felt Cabs

Beaded Felted Cabs

Creating Felted Cabochons to learn beaded Bezels

I have been meaning to try my hand at beaded cab bezels - or is it beaded bezels cabochons? Anyway, I kept buying but was not willing to give up my few and precious cabs to learn how to do the beaded bezels. Sure I could use cheaper everyday items like pebbles while learning the beaded bezel techniques - but being contrary, I didn't want to "waste" my precious time beading around something I would throw away.

Thank goodness, the love of novelty came to ther rescue. One day while trying out some whimsical idea in my head and playing around with my felting needle and roving, I had an "ah-ha" moment. Could I not make my own felted cabs and then learn how to bead bezel around them? It would be cheaper (as I had already spent quite a bit of dosh getting rovings and felting needles etc some time ago). It would be fun - I could create whatever colors I liked and even felt in different designs. And I could decide on the shape and size I wanted. I could make more when I needed. And (this really appeals to me) ... I had not seen it done yet. (I am sure someone somewhere would have thought of this already - but I hadn't seen it before so that was extra excitement for me).

And to top it off, surely with the body of the felted cab being less rigid and less unforgiving than a stone cab, it must make it easier to ensure my beaded bezels are the right, snug sizing around the cab. All yes-yes-yes ... so off I went.

All felted cabs are fabric protected (against dirt and fire with Scotch Guard) prior to beading and sewing.

First Attempt

With some multi-colored retro color scheme in mind, I felted these squares onto a pre-processed felt backing. The thought was that I could later cut them up for use. Or something. You can see that the back, which is extra fluffy, is also interesting.

With needle felting, the fuzzy back should always be kept in mind as sometimes it turns out more interesting than the front.

The 2 pics here show both sides of more attempts using felted backing. Again, not so happy with it. I suppose they are usable but at the moment I cannot see the advantage of having backing when I can just felt a cab without one.

This piece is now on hold as I am not that enthused about it though I do like the coloring.

Attempt 2: Retro Pink Oval Cab

Same cab shown from different angles. Now this is also my first beaded bezel and I must say it is fun fun fun. The felted cab is (fabric) glued onto a stiff backing (just like LSS).

LSS stands for Lacy Stiff Stuff and is often used to give body to beading embroidery. Also widely used in beaded cuffs. I did buy some of this. But the one I am using is just as good. In fact, better coz it is cheaper and it is recycled :) I got it from Reverse Gargage, Australia

Other Felted Cab sets

Just a collection of miscellaneous cabs as I test out to see what cabs work and what directions I can go with needle felting and cab creations.

These 3 below are from this collection showing what they look like beaded up. You can also see from the close up how some fiber (sari silk) has been incorporated into the felting.

First Beaded Cab Bracelet using felted cabs (CC64)

This is my first beaded cab bracelet - learning beaded bezeling and having a real good time. First I made all those little cabbies. Then I glued them to backing and beaded around them. Then I used a wide wire-satin white ribbon (the wire is very thin and along both edges of the ribbon. Comes that way). and glued the beaded cabs on one at a time (only the center; not too near the edges otherwise the needle will get gummy). Then each beaded cab is sewed on. Once all the cabs are in place, heavy random beading is used to fill in the spaces between the cabs.

The pics below show the finished bracelet from various angles. Whenever I can, I like to take as many shots as I can - front, back, sides because I find that over time I tend to forget how I made something so this pictorial archive really helps me. In this example, I also attached a blue felted cab behind the ribbong before folding down the transparent sides. The blue helps blend in better as blue seedbeads were used to fill in the spaces between cabs. The clasp used is Swarovski lingerie clear crystal embedded clasp.

I tried making some more sets for either bracelets, necklaces, or something. Some of the below are beaded; some not coz probably I got distracted with new ideas. Or something.

Set: Warm Retro

So far, this is my favourite set.

Addendum: This set has now been made into Warm Retro Metallica cuff bracelet.

Set: Blue Greens

This set is now gone. I was orignally thinking it could be some kind of necklace and I was thinking of having gold edging to each cab. The 3 focal ones actually are remnant from my first cab bracelet above. In the photos I am just playing around with some idead for the placement of the 3 focal cabs. However I am very happy that someone (actually a very talented someone called Maryanne Villalba of the Maryniky Designs) has taken them as is. I hope she will show me what she does with them. Fingers crossed.

Set: Wild Retro Funky

This set has pretty wild funky colors with a retro bent. Some of been bezel beaded.

This set has gone to another very talented lady. She harbors wild roos in her backyard and makes the most delicious and sought after Peruzi clay pendants, cabochons, and beads. More fingers crossed in the hope that she will show me what she does with these as well.

From Fluff to Felt

Thought it might be quite fun have a visual pictorial journey of the fluff turning to the final felted piece. The pic here shows a possible arrangement only. Playing around. Cats and Mouse Bag

This drawstring bag is hand-knitted and felted from 100% pure wool. It is small to medium sized but with a spacious capacity afforded by the drawstring. The drawstring allows it to be petite or expandable in size for carrying more of your goodies. Very comfortable. Can be worn over shoulder as in sling bag or across the body as in messenger bag.

Rectangular base is self-reinforced by gusset at bottom.

Seed beads are used to draw the cats and mouse. Flap is further adorned by a rhodium-plated shinny cat charm hanging from a felt ball that is dotted by silver beads.

This heart-shaped felt bag is worked by entwining 4 ply hand-dyed 100% pure new wool with fancy, golden feather yarn adorned with a vintage multi-charm from an old theatre company.

Strap is made from varying thickness of thick Linen yarn from US. Top of strap has been widened for extra comfort.

Graffiti Girl

Graffiti Girl - Beaded Handknit Felted HandBag

I was walking my doggie and noticed all these graffiti around me and I thought how cool to try and capture some of that look and feel onto a bag. So this is one of the many images that managed to pop up (the other images are still banging on the doors for release!)

I wanted a non-plain background - in fact one that was reminiscent of something real from life like cement or sidewalk or bricks. This multi-toned yarn in grey produces a somewhat concrete look and it even looks a little 'grubby' - which suits the theme completely. Of course, in truth it is not grubby as it has had to go through the washer to achieve its strong felted material form.

The graffiti design is dual-sided: one with the "Graffiti Girl" who is play acting as a nurse about to inject her poor hapless teddy.

On the reverse side I decided to do some graffiti letter just for the heck of it.

The shape is unusual and unique as a result of the technique used to create a firmer, stronger base.

The shaping of the handles too had to be different as I wanted something other than 'normal' to go with the whole street-feel of the bag. This handle makes it much more hip while keeping it functional.

Strong, sturdy, and very street-wise - this bag is ideal for all your jaunts around town.

This "Retro Art and Bling" bag is my favourite. You will just love it even more when you get a chance to see it in real life. Even more so when you wear it.

It is comfortable across the body and the pockets (sorry, pics are not very clear) are placed in such a fortuitous way that your hands slide in with total comfort. One is for a mobile phone and the other pocket is for your bits and pieces.

It was inspired partly from retro perspective and Kandinsky art. It features art drawn with varying sizes of crystal beads, seed beads, Swarovski rivoli and teardrops glass beads. The free hanging bag charm is made entirely from complementary colors of Swarovski crystals.

This was designed with bling, art, practicality, and comfort in mind.

This bag was knitted from various colors and ply of 100% wool. Fully felted and metal studs add distinctions to the flap. The beaded design continues to the underside of the flap - so that when you flap it open, you continue to bling!

The back for the bag shows a vintage copper floral stabilizer for the strap, featuring cz stones.

The bag is placed on a chair to give you an instant visual perspective of size.

This is entitled "Summer Joy Ride" as it has a summery feel and is reminiscent of a train ride in the country, seeing the trees go by and the fluttering butterflies.

New knitted and felt bag in light happy colours. This is not only cheeful and funky but is also very comfortable and roomy.

It has different beaded images on both sides - beading done in bright, cheerful, complementary colours. The bottom has been reinforced to help keep its shape.

Sunnies Sari

This handmade felted bag has been entitled "Sunnies Sari" as it features a big vintage Sunnies (sunglasses) button and sustainable Fair Trade recycled silk sari yarn from Nepal has been used to enliven the whole bag.

"Sunnies Sari" ~ a comfy funky shoulder bag or messenger bag (easily worn over shoulder or across body). Knitted and felted and decorated with coloured beads and vintage items.

Made from 100% British Wool. It's dark rich background is slightly fuzzy and exudes a warm cozy feel. The embellishments are made from vintage sunnies (sunglasses) buttons and light-reflective house number plate coupled with colourful glass pearls beads snuggling on a rope of sustainable Sari Silk from Nepal.

The shoulder strap is tightly crocheted from Sari Silk for strength and trimmed with matching wool.

The back of the bag boasts of finishing with square mother of pearl hole protector for the drawstring cord. The drawstring is made from vibrant Sari Silk specifically corded for colour and durability.

The bag is a perfect size for everyday casual use. It's drawstring allows you to put in as little or as much as you like.

Vintage Dark Sophistication

I love the era when "Ladies were Ladies" and there was a subtle and strong sophistication about the elegant ladies even when they looked prim and conservative. The entwining of conservatism with enticing sophistication enhanced each other with very alluring results.

This little night bag follows in the same gloriously subtle and strong sophisticated allure.

Made from glitter Mohair, it looks great by day and by night. And the nighttime calls out even more from this little bag as the nightlights catch the glitter in the yarn and reflects little bits of endless light reflections.

The pièce de résistance is in the very special braiding around the rounded handles: out-of-production 1920's vintage braiding in silver foil, silver lined seed beads and pearls. Details on the braiding alone are not to be easily found these days.

Both sides of the bag are identically decorated.

Handknitted using a double strand - one of glitter Mohair and one of black pure wool. After assembly (without the handles), the piece is felted (fulled) and blocked to shape.

The handles are handknitted I-cords (unfelted). Strong tubular plastic is inserted in the I-cords to give it shape and strength. They are then sturdily applied to the body of the bag.

Finally the vintage trimming is applied to half-encircle the circular handles, with a seamless ending as the braiding trails into the inside of the bag.

This little handmade felt bag is ideal for the happy gal on an outing or for a party occasion.

Light and Breezy - it is made from 100% Australian hand painted wool and felted fully. Dyed in tea to achieve a slightly retro vintage look, it combines both retro and modern breeziness. (The background looks lighter in the photos than it is IRL).

Hotfix crystals are sprinkled throughout the body on both sides. Both sides depict different versions of the floral windy scene.

Flowers from variegated randomly sized glass chip which also border the rim of the bag together with AB sequins for an extra girly flourish.

Straps are beaded with round AB (aurore boreale) beads which extend to inside the bag.

Brass eyelets affixed to the strap holes for a proper finish.

A small bag when you don't want to be lugging lots of things around but still would like to be noticed for your distinctive flair.

bracelet - Almost Bridal

Beaded Felted Cab Bracelet

Almost White Almost Bridal (CC66)

In Beaded Felt Cabs, I show some of the earliest felted cabs I made. These set of "Almost White Almost Bridal" felted cabs - I forgot to photograph.

I named them coz I think originally I meant to attempt a bridal set. Then that little brain nymph kept asking me "How about some color? Just a tiny bit?" and then the little color swirls happened. Hence it is now Almost White Almost Bridal!

Doing Up

I used Pellon "Under Wonder" fusible web to give the ends a firmer backing before folding over and making ready to sew on snap-on fasteners/buttons.

Then the transparent snap-ons are sewn on each end. After that, I applied more fusible webbing before sewing down and neatening edges. The underside of the buttons should not show.

Note to Self

It doesn't affect the functionality but next time, I have to do a backing for this ribbonbefore folding down the ends etc. so that the stitches at the back of the ribbon is also hidden. Next time ... just got away from me and I forgot to do this till all that fiddly sewing along the edges had already been done.

The ribbon I used here is a wire-ribbon (as it was thin wire along the long edges; both sides). Not too great for sewing coz it does not look so pretty on the underside after it has been sewn on. However the translucent edges really give it something and I might think of using this kind of ribbon again - but with more "improvements".

Seed Bead Bracelet - Right-Angle & Random Weaving

Blues Coral Bracelet (CC51)

This seeded Blues Coral bracelet is luxuriously full of seed and other beads, done in a free-form style utilizing right angle, coraling, and fringes. It sits comfortably when worn. As random sparkling Swarovski crystals are embedded and worked randomly into the bracelet, enchanting sparkles of light and flashing occurs when bracelet is worn.

Someone recently was commenting how difficult she found making free-form jewelry. Much more into structured pieces - which is how I feel too. And that made me realize that it might be time I tried some free-from jewelry pieces.

This Blues Coral Bracelet is based on the Aspen Glow necklace by Sheilah Cleary in "Beading and Beyond". The bracelet base is done in right-angle weave over 2 beads (instead of the standard 1 bead). Once the base is done, then it is just random (free flowing) coraling and fringes (Frothed and Branched) to be sewn with a random interjection of sparkling crystal stones.

Chainmail Bracelets - Euro 4-1 & Byzantine

European 4-1 and Byzantine Weaves

Hah! Finally I have persuaded myself after many long years to learn some chainmail. These are my first 3 bracelets destined to be tested out on my brother who I hope will wear them.

Two of the bracelets are done in Euro 4-1 (European 4-1)weave, and the third in Byzantine weave.

As I am only starting out, these are done in bright aluminium and anodized aluminium. They are affordable, lightweight, and easy to manipulate. Aluminium jumprings are great for practice.

If your piece is going to face a lot of rough and tumble, colourful anodized aluminium rings won't do as the color scraps off. It is better to go with Anodized Niobium Jumprings. Note however that they can be up to 10 times more expensive.

Last night when I heard the news that Shocking, ridden by Corey Brown had won the Melbourne Cup at the Flemington Racecourse, I decided to throw together an eternity bracelet to commemorate the occasion. I chose to work with the distinctive colors won by Shocking's jockey.

Swarovski Crystal AB (aurore borealis) and white copper go very well and elegantly together. This was made in a set - necklace and bracelet. The Silver look with Swarovski - necklace is also documented at this site. Here we focus on the images of the bracelet.

Made solely with A Grade white copper mesh chain and lots of Swarovski 5328 XILION bicone in Crystal AB, and finished off with hallmarked sterling silver toggles, this piece looks casually elegant (in my opinion).

These bracelets are made with the same beading weave used for my earlier crosses. The earrings are not from any pattern but are just variations of the same weave. And as I said in the crosses piece, I don't know the name of this weave at the moment and so have just named it "capture weave".

Bracelet done in Golden Chocolate Crackle Glass beads, gold 2mm metal spacer beads, and large natural wooden beads with lovely clear grains. The golden chocolate crackle beads with the wooden beads surrounded by gold metal really brings out the warm tones all around.

As per usual, I like taking photos which also acts as my means of documentation.

This I think is pretty from the gentle infusion of the palette of pastel colors for the cat eye fiber optic beads.

Beaded Felted Cab Cuff Bracelet Bangle

Warm Retro Metallica (CC65)

In Beaded Felt Cabs, I show some of the earliest felted cabs I made. This is from the Warm Retro cab set.

This is probably not going to be my fav but this is my first fully beaded felted full cuff bangle or cuff bracelet. And that certainly puts a smile on my face. On top of that, I trialed using beer stubby holder as the cuff base ~ and I love it.

For one thing, it is recycled. And I do love using recycled items and re-purposing them. (Makes me feel good!) And though I love shopping and buying gadgets and specialty items, when one uses things that were originally designed for something else, it does make my brain cells work laterally ~ and that is always a good thing for creativity and even for keeping young.

So instead of going out and buying what everyone else seems to be using - i.e. cuff blanks as they are called, I had a blast of a time using my beer stubby. And the end result is that it is warm and cushiony ~ and it is a standard size.

This size is probably best suited for medium sized wrists; it is a bit too large for mine.

The Cuff Process

The felted cab components can be seen at: Warm Retro cab set. Here is the next steps in creating the cuff.

Another recycled material - this strong, fray-resistant, black material. I used this as the backing for the cabs where I glued them on and beaded. This pic shows both sides (taken at night). It is quite shinny, very closely woven, and strong ~ but still easy enough to sew through.

The circumference is determined by the size of the stubby holder. Next, determine the width for the cuff. Place and glue on the cabs. (Make sure that it is only in the center of each cab. Glue near the edges will make the needle gummy as you sew.). Draw in the outlines and any design lines you want. Here the curvy line is because I determined I wanted 2 beaded colors later on.

Sew around each cab to better secure them to the backing. It only has to be medium density sewing. Then beaded away!!

Once you have finished beading (the background full dense beading - random style), cut. As here, you can also add other beads, stones/cabochons before the full random background beading. Here I have used Cliff Brunton's final auction vintage stage square plastic flat-back sew-on stones.
Cut the stubby holder to the required width determined for the cuff bracelet.
Cut out at one end the rectangular edging to decrease final thickness of backing.
Fold over and crease all the edges that will have to be folded down.

The seedies used were red-solid core size 11 and size 11 metallic gold seed beads.

Tack down the edges (only because this material does not crease 100%). Then dabble glue on so that it can be fitted over the stubby holder.

I find it better once it is on the stubby holder, to do one round of whip stitching on both edges. After that, bead the edges to finish off.

	The initial set of earrings - labeled for easier identification.		A - done in metal spacers: 4mm Stardust metal spacer and 2mm round metal spacers.
	Though the earrings look quite solid, they are actually (medium) flexible and soft.
	B - same style as A earrings. Done in 2mm silver plated metal spacers and infused with soft blues Cat Eye beads (4mm)
	C - Same method as A & B earrings. Done in Antiques Bronze (plated) metal spacers with matching warm earth tones in Cat Eye beads.
			D - same beading weave but this time, used to "capture" a bead in the center. Wooden center bead (10 mm).
			The center bead is held in place by threading through and anchoring to the surrounding capture weave a couple of times. This helps prevent the center bead from rotating and showing its hole during wear.
	E - same as D but with pink glows in Cat Eye 4mm beads.
	F - for a gaiety look using multi colors Cat Eye beads surrounded by Silver plated 2mm spacer beads.		This is actually done and offered in a set with a pendant.

necklace - Acorn

A Corny Acorn necklace

This handcrafted necklace has been named "A Corny Acorn" ~ for obvious reasons. Created during one of my phases of attempting miniature items - and out popped these acorns.

The acorns are crocheted with cotton yarn from Nepal. They are then stuff with cotton to give it shape and firmness. The chain is woven with a beaded crochet cord - finger crochet with double beads (beads on both sides of the flat cord). And the chain is a gold plated light aluminium large-link chain that is both nickel and lead free.

seed bead necklace - Coral Rainbow The seeded Coral Rainbow necklace is luxuriously full of seed and other beads, done in a free-form style utilizing right angle, coraling, and fringes. It sits comfortably when worn. As the base is shaped, the necklace should only be worn one way - i.e. the yellow-green section is on the left (of the wearer). Unexpected twinkling fun, especially by night, as the embedded Swarovski crystals catch and reflect the light from within the depths of the coral seeds.

This Coral Rainbow necklace is based on the Aspen Glow necklace by Sheilah Cleary in "Beading and Beyond". It starts off with a shaped necklace base done in right-angle weave over 2 beads (instead of the standard 1 bead). Once the base is done, then it is just random (free flowing) coraling and fringes (Frothed and Branched) to be sewn with a random interjection of other contrast beads, stones, and crystals.

The Lariat Y-Necklace is a very versatile necklace to have as it is easy to wear and can be worn at various heights so as to achieve varying looks.

Here I have done this in beaded crochet spiral rope with an especial emphasis on the loop-clasp. After making a number of these styled necklaces, I was not quite happy with how the loop-clasp worked out and wanted to try something different. This one here has turned out better than I expect and if I do say so myself, I am very happy with it - hence the large number of photos of it.

The whole piece has a golden tone to it as it is made up of gold colored glass pearls, gold plated stardust brass spacers beads, matching teardrop beads and seed beads - and topped off by the crystal floral slider in golden hues.

	Using a matching crystal slider, I have finally managed to get the loop-clasp I am happy with. Attractive, sturdy, and easy to use.		Like I said - lots of shots. Close up.
	Yet another close-up. This will be helpful as my archive and record.		The back is done in square stitch with gold and crystal ab seed beads. The square stitch is very strong providing a feeling of both richness and security.

	This is definitely for my records. It shows the stinging pattern and beading/crochet sequence that went into the piece.		These last 2 shots are not very good as I took them by night. It better shows the construction of the lariat-loop-clasp: the loop is first contructed into the body of the main necklace and uses Square Stitch. The crystal slider is added later but the threading runs through the width of the square stitches with an outer string of beads along the sides of the slider.

Joybelle 2009

A handcrafted gift for Joybelle in 2009. I do hope she will like this and that I have gotten her favourite colors correctly. The focal Rainbow Flourite gemstone in stripes of blues and violets was the starting point. From there, the colours of the crochet necklace rope was determined.

I actually very much like the way it has turned out. It has a very classy rich look and the rope almost looks like burnished copper golds. And it is extremely soft and drapable. However my first attempt at the colors of the rope did not become the final version. This was made into another necklace (see last photo and the Lave Pearl necklace). After I had completed the first rope, it occurred to me that I needed more blues in the rope hence had to start over again.

Lucky for me, the second rope was, in my opinion, a much better complement to the focal gemstone and is as featured here.

This is a whole range of Metallic Sheen beaded necklaces and bracelets. They are made from New Technology plastic beads. Yes - plastic beads! ~ believe it or not!

Unbelievably, these new technology plastic beads are of high quality and are seamless. The metallic sheen on them are truly incredible. In fact, I have fallen in love with them. Totally! None of the pictures, no matter how I tried, really do them justice.

They look great by day or night but personally I would recommended then highly for night wear because under lights, the sheen is to die for!

These are my latest surprise find and like I said, I am totally in love with these beads. They look and feel great, are fantastic to work with and the results are well worth every effort. The hardest thing about these beads is in trying to take good photos of them so as to capture the great sheen they have. Meanwhile I also discovered another surprising and most pleasing find.

All these necklaces use a Swarovski specialty plastic clasp (#51501). When I first got them, I didn't quite know what I was going to do with them. They looked quite ordinary to me despite them being produced and manufactured by Swarovski. However in using them for these necklaces, they have proved themselves truly worthy of the Swarovski name. The little crystals really give off an incredible shine ~ and once again, you will truly appreciate them by night lights. And they are also fun to use, fits really well (though once again, the photos cannot show them at their very best), are secure, and have a very satisfying "click" when closing them.

The Swarovski clasps are like clasps you would see on a bra and operate the same way. However they are ideal for jewelry pieces as well. They sit very well and are so fun and secure to use.

	(CC37) This was my first necklace using these New Tech Metallic plastic beads - and the results were so rewarding and scrumptious, I just carried on making more! Remember .. these definitely look better in real life than I have been able to capture in photos. And to me, they definitely look better by night than by day ~ though it is still very stunning by day.		Another view of it. You can also see the Swarovski specialty clasp used. More details about this clasp below. These New Tech Metallic plastic beads are the latest in beads - they are of great quality, are seamless, and the metallic sheen is something to fall in love with. The necklaces are constructed with one row of ladder stitch, 2 rows of Herringbone Ndbele stitch, and ended with edging beads.
	Another look from the 'back'. The necklaces can easily be worn back to front for a different and still attractive look.		I forgot to take a good picture of the necklace worn 'back to front' so this is not a very good shot. In real life, this gives the pieces an alternative look that is quite effective.
	(CC38) - This is done in pale silvery shades of the New Tech Metallic plastic beads. They look kind of pastel and colorful in this pic. In real life, the shades are more subtle and the whole necklace has a silvery sheen for the overall effect.		(CC39) - In rich emerald metallic green with metallic lime green.
	(CC40) - one of my favs. Very rich, very gold. Incredible gold metallic sheen. A combination of dark and light gold.		(CC41) - yet another of my personal favs. The metallic blues are just ~ Yum!
	(CC42) - striking colours in deep red and light gold.		(CC43) - this was made for Ashley, my niece so a child size using multi-colours and with crystals drop butterflies.
	The necklace is matched with a (child-size) bracelet.		(CC44) - the child-size bracelet for Ashley. Made with stretchy threading and RAW (right angle weave) stitches. It is further reinforced with even strong stretchy thread on both the edges.
	Another angle of the stretchy metallic sheen bracelet.		All the necklaces shown here are finished off using this Swarovski specialty plastic crystal encrusted clasp. It works much like a bra clasp and works extremely well with these set of jewelry. It gives of surprisingly incredible points of shinny light - especially at night. They are sewn on very securely so that there is no wobbly bits to them. Very easy to use, very secure, and has a satisfying secure "click" when you close them. To open or close, you bend them like you would a pretzel. It blends in very well and is very fun.
	This is the back part of it - a record more for myself as to how it was secured.

Swarovski Crystal AB (aurore borealis) and white copper go very well and elegantly together. This was made in a set - necklace and bracelet. The Silver look with Swarovski - bracelet is also documented at this site. Here we focus on the images of the necklace.

Made solely with A Grade white copper mesh chain and lots of Swarovski 5328 XILION bicone in Crystal AB, and finished off with large hallmarked sterling silver toggles, this piece looks casually elegant (in my opinion).

	I have provided multiple shots of the necklace against different backgrounds and angles as it is very hard to capture the silver sheen together with the elusive but beautiful iridescence of the Swarovski CABs (Crystal ABs).		Here is another shot against a lighted background. The lighting makes it very hard for me to catch good crisp pictures. But then, it could just be that I am a poor photographer.

Large beaded crosses in capture-weave (CC54)

A bunch of large beaded crosses done in some kind of beading weave. (Am calling it "capture weave" for now till I learn otherwise.) Each (round) bead is beaded around and then joined together. Joints are further strengthened.

Here for the larger beads I have used wooden and faceted crystal beads. And the smaller beads are either tiny metal spacer beads (2mm) or seed beads (size 15).

The technique was from "Beads Style: Cool 2" (Japanese beading book) - published by Mook.

Need to use perfectly identically sized beads to produce a even border.

	A-D crosses. I have marked them from A-D in this group for easier identification.
	Approximate sizing is about 7cm x 5cm		Beaded Silver cross with silver plated metal beads (2mm) and large round faceted crystal bead (about 12mm). The central bead is surrounded by red crystal pearls for contrast.
			The sides are made from clear crystals.
			Red Crystal surround with black seed beads (size 15) with round facet beads in Crystal AB.

	I call this the Tudor Cross as someone kindly told me that it reminds her of the Tudor style.		Surround beads are red crystal pearls (4mm), small 2mm gold plated metal spacer beads. The large central beads are made from wood.
	The color in these shots are not very good - too much blue in them. The red beads actually look much redder and richer IRL.		The bail is done in 3-bead ladder stitch.

Addendum - more crosses

This next cross is beaded in the same style but proved to be very troublesome indeed. Made with more expensive materials and solely Swarovski bicones (I wanted to see how much of a bling-difference it would make by using Swarovski).

I cannot honestly say that the Swarovski crystals in this design made too much of a difference - even visually testing it under different lighting conditions. The Swarovski crystals were red bicones (garnet crystal I think) and clear Crystals - 4mm bicones.

The red large beads are imitation pearls - 14mm (very good quality faux pearls). And the black center is a 14m round facet crystal beads in Jet AB.

This cross was intended to be hung at a slant. However when it was completed, it's body proved too soft and flexible. When hanging at slant, the lower section of the cross bends downwards so much so that it no longer looks like a cross. A real bummer. Now I have to unpick it all over again :(

I started with this weave (which I have called "capture weave" because I don't know it has a proper name) when I was learning to make my large cross pendants. These pendants are all variations of the "capture weave". I found the weave so enjoyable that I kept making one variation after another. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

A: Tudor Column pendant (CC60A)

I have called this the Tudor column pendant. Someone told me that she found this coloration and style reminded her of Tudor homes and design so I have gone along with that naming. A column pendant done in the capture weave using topaz crystals (4mm), gold plated metal round spacers (2mm), and large dark Navy wooden bead (12mm).

The hole of the central bead is never seen as it has been secured in place by running a thread though it and anchoring it to its surrounding beaded capture weave.

The pendant is shown hung from a gold metal choker (which is only for illustration) but it can be equally well hung from a conventional chain, cords, tubing, ribbons, etc.

B: Light Gaiety Column pendant (CC60B)

A light and clean, airy feel to this pendant from the use of silver-lined Czech seed beads (sz 15), pastel Cat Beads (4mm), and large white glass pearls.

C: Planetary Silver beaded pendant (CC60C)

Using the versatile capture weave beading, this pendant looks like a silver planet captured. It will be very well suited for a long necklace style. A large (20mm) superior Fantastic Acrylic bead in striped silver, captured in deep red glass pearls (4mm) and bright silver plated small spacers (2mm).

D: Metallic Egg beaded pendant (CC60D)

Yup, I am ingenuously (not) calling this the Metallic Egg for very obvious reasons, which of course does not say a lot for my powers of creative naming. Materials used are a large oblong superior Fantastic Acrylic bead, captured in silver plated starbust metal (brass) beads(4mm) and bright silver plated small spacers (2mm).

E: Vertical Metallic Egg beaded pendant (CC60E)

Yup, this is a continuation of my "creative naming". Virtually the same as CC60D above with only the orientation of the pendant taking a 90° turn. Materials used are a large oblong superior Fantastic Acrylic bead, captured in silver plated starbust metal (brass) beads(4mm) and bright silver plated small spacers (2mm).

F - J : Petite circular beaded pendants (CC60F-J)

This whole series of pendants here are made with beaded capture weave. A variety of colors in the same style is always interesting I find because even though you think they will be the same-same, there is always something that makes the same-but-different which I like a lot.

K: Tudor Angle pendant (CC60K)

Like the A) Tudor pendant above, this uses the same colors and beads. The difference comes in how the 3 are joined together. I have also attached this pendant to a black mesh (brass) metal chain.

These sets, comprising of earrings and pendant/necklace are made with the same beading weave used for my earlier crosses. The earrings are not from any pattern but are just variations of the same weave. And as I said in the crosses piece, I don't know the name of this weave at the moment and so have just named it "capture weave".

Need to use perfectly identically sized beads to produce a even border.

Set 1: Joyful Earrings & Pendant in Capture Weave (CC56)

This set (earrings, pendant) represents joy, colors, and lightness to me. Made using the "capture weave", it utilizes a pastel range of colors in Cat Eye beads (aka fiber optic beads) captured in light bright silver. The earrings are deliberately not completely identical, both in color arrangement and bail/jumpring color. The contrast of the center dark bead against the light pastels and bright silver produces this harmonious, fresh style that is ready to spring into the world at a moment's notice.

The cord is not included in this set and is only used for illustration. The pendant in this set will look equally fresh and joyful in silver or colored chains/cords/ribbons.

Set 2: Classic Black and White Earrings and Pendant in Capture Weave (CC57)

This is my favourite set. The classic colors of black and white give this piece the timeless elegance and flexibility of moving among any circle of friends and events ~ at any time, day and night.

This is definitely a one-off only. The black cut crystals used are vintage. (I suspect it comes from within the 1920-1040 timeframe) It came from part of an old piece of jewelry. It's age and the gentle cuts contrasted against the perfect crispness of Swarovski White Alabaster crystals delivers the understated desired timelessness of classic couture.

This set includes earrings and pendant (chain not included). All findings used are in Sterling Silver.

Set 3: Swarovski Gold ~ Earrings and Necklace in Capture Weave (CC58)

Beautiful for a touch of rich warmth and sparkling colors. Focal beads are natural decorated and polished wooden beads. They are "captured" by a soothing range of colors provided by Swarovski crystals. The gold plated metal beads and findings adds that ideal brush of richness to the piece. Corded with brown leather cording (which can be removed if you wish to change to another type of chain/ribbon, cord/choker).

The approximate length of necklace with the given leather cord is about 38.5 cm (15 inch).

Set 4: Joyful Gold ~ Earrings and Necklace in Capture Weave (CC59)

This set is similar to set #3 ("Swarovski Gold"). The polished decorated wooden beads are encircled with playful colorful cat eye beads. This set is for earrings and pendant. (The choker shown is not included).

Swarov Pearlie Danglies (CC36)

This necklace and earrings set is done in Perlen crochet beaded technique using only Swarovski crystal elements and sterling silver findings. I made this to match the new crochet and tassled flapper dress and though this jewelry set is not strictly "1920 flapper style", I think that it does go well with the flapper dress.

dress - Flapper Dress

1920s Flapper Dress

I have always been fascinated by the 1920s flapper dress. All those tassles - so tantalizing and fun. And so, I have always wanted to have a flapper dress. Well I finally made one for myself with what I have on hand. The underlying base dress was first crocheted using silky viscose yarn. Then with some vintage tassles I was lucky enough to acquire at an auction earlier in the year (the Cliff Brunton closing auction), I hand sewed the tassle braids on. My flapper dress for Christmas 2009 with some new matching necklace and earrings made with Swarovski crystal components.

	The "base" dress - crocheted from my hoarded supply of silky viscose yarn. This is still in the rough stage - as you can see, I have yet to tidy up some loose threads and smooth down the dress. I wish someone could tell me where I can find more of this beautiful yarn on a cone.		The basic crochet stitches for the main part of the body. I actually had to remove quite a few rows from the bottom later on as it was too long and the dress became too heavy. The final weight of the dress came to just over 1kg - which is pretty heavy. But thank goodness one does not really feel the weight that much when worn.
	The bodice with a different type of crochet stitch. It is also crochet-beaded with Miyuki triangle Crystal AB seed beads. The beads are actually shinnier IRL than can be shown in the photos.		A close up of the stitches in the bodice.
	Ah ... finally after hours and hours of sewing on the tassle braiding, I have my first flapper dress.

miniature - Blue White Bag

Beaded Charm Bag with Swarovski

Miniature Charm Bag: Blue + White (CC47)

I started playing around with making miniature "things" recently. One of these "things" turned out to be miniature charm bags. First I tried working with any old seed beads I had but quickly found that you need very precise and consistently sized beads to make the little miniatures really work.

This little miniature bag is done in Swarovski 5328 XILION bicone beads and Swarovski 5810 pearls. And for the really small bits, I used Czech Metallic Copper seed beads.

I have am also showing the picture of the second miniature Swarovski charm bag done in Copper Czech seed beads (sz 11), Swarovski 5301 White Alabaster and White Alabaster AB bicones (4mm), and Swarovski 5810 Antique Bronze pearls (3mm). This second miniature is no longer available as I gave it away to a lovely lady named Joyce.

miniature - Chantel bag charm

Chantel Beaded Miniature Bag Charm with Swarovski

Chantel Bag Charm

As I mentioned in Miniature - Blue White Bag Charm, I just started playing around with making some miniature items. I showed the Blue White bag at the beading forum and a good pal of mine, Chantel McCabe said she liked it. This was yesterday and I told her I would make her one if I could find the time to spare (as it is almost Christmas 2009, and there is too much to do). I didn't find the time to spare but I had to satisfy my itch today and make it anyway. So this is the resultant Chantel Mini Bag Charm.

I have taken lots of photos from many angles so the 3D shaping of the bag can be better viewed. And this time I also remembered to put some coins next to it for visual sizing.

Hopefully it doesn't show, and more importantly that it will not fall apart - but this little bag gave me a bit more problems than anticipated. After I finished it, I had to do some serious surgery on it because one of the threads came out (I must have cut too close). Then it required some cosmetic repair. I think I saved it and hope Chantel does too!

	Standing next to some coins - the silvery one is an Aussie 5¢ piece. The other is an Aussie $1 piece.		I was wondering what to do with this miniature bags. Believe it or not, I am not a person who is into miniature stuff - not to keep anyway. So anyway, it occurred to me today that (just for a laugh), it could be worn like a ring (the handles will determine the size of the ring) - and what do you know, it doesn't look half bad!!

painting - Golden Lovers beaded

Golden Lovers - beaded wall hanging

I bought a painting entitled "Golden Lovers" some time this year from Nigel Gillings, a local Sydney artist. The purchase was made at the Paddington Markets in Sydney though Nigel does have his own website (www.nigelart.com). Ever since my purchase of that painting, I have been itching to create a beaded sister version of it to hang on our walls.

This here is the beaded version. It is done in beaded crochet. Admittedly this is my first attempt at a beaded wall hanging so there was a lot of learning that resulted from the process. Also, it is not yet complete as now I have to go to a professional framer to get some advice and assistance as to how best to frame this. I will post the final pics later as and when the work gets framed.

When stringing beads to be crocheted, these are the main things to keep in mind:

You cannot string all of the beads at once. Maybe about 10-20 rows at a time, depending on how many beads are in per row. It is impossible to string all the beads because as you work, the beads have to be continuously moved back along the reel as you crochet. 10-20 rows of the required beads is normally manageable.
You need to work downwards and backwards when you string.
Say you will be stringing 10 rows at a time. Then for the first stringing section, you start from row 10.
And you string the correct colored beads (according to the graph) from right to left (on the graph).
That means you string row 10, right to left.
Then row 9, right to left. And so on. When you reach row 1 ... you start crocheting.
The next stringing section, you start the same process from row 20 to row 11. Then crochet.
Tip: make a tick for when you have strung a row and a cross when you have crocheted a row. This really is almost essential so you don't lose your place when working on a large piece of work.
It is always much preferable to not use 2 strands of thread together for this kind of work. I had to do it here as I did not have a single strand of the right color that was thick enough for me. However having the double strand to deal with was a headache you just don't need.

	This photo here is of the original signed painting by Nigel Gillings. I have shown the actual measurements.		This is a graphed version using Photoshop and a lot of graphic manipulation to create the graph as well as to fill each square within the graph for accurate beading later on. (apprx 70 stitches over 90 rows) I discovered later that there is a mistake here. The picture was first 'squashed' downwards because normally a 10x10 beaded square will end up taller than wide - hence not a square but a tall rectangle. By squashing the picture about 1/3 its vertical height should normally result in the correct proportions after it has been (crochet) beaded. It is only after 'squashing' the picture is the graph lines created and the graph-squares filled in with the colors for the beads.Each square of the graph has to be filled in precisely because when it comes to beading/stringing time, one will need a very accurate number of beads to string per row.
	This here is the final piece. Because I had 'squashed' the picture in the graphing stage, the final output is a bit shorter than I intended. This was a result of me changing my intended crochet method when I actually started crocheting. Instead of one beaded row, followed by a 'blank' (non-beaded) return row, followed by the next beaded row - I actually picked up the stitch from the last beaded row (hence 'absorbing' the entire 'blank' row). This eliminated the normal beaded elongation effect that would normally have happened and as a result, the final output was not as tall as I anticipated. The good news though is that the final piece is much firmer and stronger than anticipated as well. This can be seen in the firm solid back of the work (as shown in the photos below). Part of the pleasure of this work is that you do not necessarily have to use identically sized beads like Miyuki or Toho seed beads. Even the more economical China or India seed beads should work and the unevenness of the seed beads actually creates a better texture and effect for larger beaded crochet work like wall hangings or even for clothing.
	Here is a close up of the back. Notice how solid and firm the back is from using the technique of "absorbing" the return blank row.		Here is another shot. This also better shows that I have sewn on edging beads (backstitched) to neaten up all the edges of the beaded crochet painting.

Hmm, winter is here again and thought turn to warm and fuzzy things.

Finger Knitting ~ Animal Farm Necklet Scarves

Been meaning to try finger knitting to see if I would take to it. So this season has proven to be an ideal time to start. By doing these necklet scarves, I have re-remembered how vital the neck area is. It is amazing how much warmer one can feel by having something comfy and warm around this one small area of your body. Necklets really warm you up and now you can look good, cute, and funky as well. These necklets are pretty much free size. Suitable for children and adults. You just loop the teddy/piggy/animal end through the loop provided at the other end and bob's your uncle!

With all pure woolen items - 100% or contains a large percentage of wool - do not machine wash in hot water. It will felt (shrink and harden) the items. Instead, always gentle wash in luke warm water only.

How to Use

Just in case some pics do not include how this is worn - here is a quick pic. It is very simple: just loop around neck. Put head of fluffy animal through loop and that's it!

Mr Teddy Winter Necklet Scarf (CC0067A)

This little teddy necklet is done using fingers alone. Made from malabrigo - Kettle Dyed Pure Merino Wool from Uruguay (col Roannoke 50). Eyes are from black howlite stones. I made Pete model this for me!

Piggy Pinky Toasty Necklet (CC0067B)

Here are some other variations. The pinky one looks more like piggy. Extremely comfy and toasty warm. Piggy's eyes are from colored sea shells. Yes, a blue-eyed piggy!

Scruffy Toasty Necklet (CC0067C)

Now this I have called "Scruffy" because that is exactly our dog Scruffy used to look like. An unbelievable mess but truly lovable. A bit of an optical illusion as well coz it takes a while to figure out his face. But you just gotta when you finally "see" him!!! Made from extra soft yarn. Cozy and comfy. Like getting cuddles from your pet all the time!

You need to look at Mr Teddy to help you figure out Scruffy's face! Scruffy has howlite eyes and sea shell nose.

4 Eyes Cutie Pie Toasty Necklet (CC67D)

When Cutie Pie was born, this is what he looked like. But his mom decided his eyes were squinty and that he probably needed glasses. Actually between you and me, I think she just wanted to put goggles on him! You can see proof of that in the picture - she already had the google frames all ready! But I am sure that in the near future, there will be another Cutie Pie - but without the glasses!

I added a late picture showing how 4Eyes Cutie Pie looks like when worn. However, lacking a real model, I had to use the back of my teddy (who is called Rambo and is not for sale) to demonstrate. Rambo's neck is about the same size as mine so this is not a bad sizing illustration.

(I cannot show you Rambo's face. No not because he is a dentist but beccause it will distract from the featured critter :) )

4Eyes Cutie Pie is very soft. He is made from Craftland Fluff yarn (100% nylon) and very toasty. He fits Small to Medium and is also suitable for a child.

4Eeys Cutie Pie has a non-identical twin called Happi. (Well, they were born within an hour of each other so they must be twins). A very different looking fluff ball and I personally think that the mom has been a bit foot loose and fancy free to be producing such strange looking dudes.

Happi - Toasty Necklet (CC67E)

Happi is the non-identical twin of 4Eyes Cutie Pie. Before he was fully born, I was sure Happi was going to be called Droopy because I had a preview of his ears. However when he came "out" he looked so much like a Happy that I had to name him Happi. Happy has a lot of expression and can be very coy so I would keep my eye on him if I were you.

Happi also suits Small-Medium sizing. Very Very soft, Very Very coy (bit like a princess) and very toasty warm.

I added a late picture showing how Happi looks like when worn. However, lacking a real model, I had to use the back of my teddy (who is called Rambo and is not for sale) to demonstrate. Rambo's neck is about the same size as mine so this is not a bad sizing illustration.

Crochet Floral Necklets

I love these crochet floral necklets. My first trial batch. I have used the luxuriously cozy Cascade 220 (100% Peruvian Highland wool) for most of these. And I do love my crochet!

Romantic floral necklet scarves that will pep up any garment you put on. Warms and feminizes you. They are light, easy to carry around, and provide as much warmth as a long heavy scarf. Each one has a button and loop that you use to fasten up. Hidden when done. Pretty much free size but I will give some sizing so you can be extra sure. I will provide the max circumference but will fit smaller. The range of fit for these is quite large and will remain comfortable.

You can easily remove and re sew back the fastening button to change the fit.

At the moment I seem to be very called to do Retro colors ~ as you can see. The focal flower can be worn in the center, side, or further along - versatile in appearances.

How to use these Necklets

As I make more and get more familiar with this necklet design, not only do they improve (I hope) ... but I am discovering there are many ways of using them. I am sure there are many more that will arise as you use them. The following are just some. Some of them pertain to later versions which have more than one fastener button - which also facilitates multiple sizing.

A comfortable fit for neck circumference: 17inch / 43-44 cm.

Victorian Pinks Crochet Floral Necklet (CC0068B)

A comfortable fit for neck circumference: 17.5inch / 44-45 cm. In Cascade 220 pinks. Very evocative of romance and gentility in the Victorian era. The center is made from a large clear bubble button - like looking into a crystal glass ball.

The differentiation in the coloring is due to the poor photographer who cannot capture consistently under different lighting.

Retro Colors Crochet Floral Necklet (CC0068C)

This is definitely my favourite from this batch.

A comfortable fit for neck circumference: 14.5inch / 37 cm. In Cascade 220. The center is made from a matching large wet felted ball.

Dramatic Red Green Crochet Floral Necklet (CC0068D)

Floral necklet/scarf for a more dramatic statement with strong earthly colors.

A comfortable fit for neck circumference: 17inch / 43-44 cm. In Cascade 220. The center is satin covered red shinny button. If the necklet looks a bit loose on the mannequin, that is not how it will look in real life. It is most likely to be a nice comfy fit.

Floral necklets, Batch 2 ... These necklets have a duo button that works as part of the design, offer multiple sizing, as well as opens up many different looks and ways of wearing these necklets.

Wild Retro Funky - Crochet Floral Necklet (CC0068E)

When this was made, I wondered if I have overdone the colors as they are rather bright. But I soldiered on despite my doubts. I know my funky sis might love these kinds of colors. Anyway I am glad I did coz now that it is done, it really looks pretty good on - IMHO.

Made using Cascade 220, the luxuriously warm 100% Peruvian Highland wool. The flower has a crystallized metal flower as its center (used to be a slider).

An extra versatile, warm and toasty necklet scarf. Featuring double buttons for extra ease in sizing. The buttons also accommodate various styles of wear. Made in retro colors that were specifically chosen for underlying feeling of visual warmth.

Warm Retro II is a variation of these same colors.

Crocheted Cowls Neck Warmers

This is the first time I have ever made these cowls. And hey, this must be love coz I just love them. Warmth and Cozy supreme. My first one is in Retro colors (huh - no surprise). It is the most convenient thing to wear. All Free Size. You just loop and drape or loop and double over for the scrunchie extra cuddly look.

Glorious Retro Cowl Neck Warmer (CC0069A)

From everything so far ... this is by far, my very favourite. It is extra extra warm. Beautiful for a chilly winter's day - be it out shopping, working, picking up the kids, going for a function party, or off to the ski snowfields.

It looks deceptively small but it does take a lot of yarn - hence that extra warmth. And anyone can wear it and feel good! Free size. Made from Cascade 220 (100% Peruvian Highland wool).

This section here is like an archival. Hand-crafted items here are my rejects. They will most probably be disassembled and components re-used. I have just keeping a collection of photos for my own records and to aid failing memory. These items are rejected for a number of reasons - it could be that I no longer like them, their "season" (in my mind) has passed, they didn't sit properly, or I just needed the components for something else.

necklace - FergSimone Oct 2009

Oct 2009 - Ferg & Simone wedding necklace

I made this necklace to be worn at Fergus and Simone's wedding in October 2009. It turned out quite well really and sat properly. However for some reason, after the event, I kind of lost interest in it and have now delegated it into the to-be-reused bin - and now is waiting to be disassembled.

The short necklace sits just about the collar bone. The center silver donut is from shinny good quality CCB silver donut rings. The piece is made in crochet beaded rope with lots of Swarovski Purple Velvet bicones. The toggle is handmade using brass (silver plated) beads - also done in beaded crochet rope technique.

	The clasp, though it looks ok lying flat during design and even wears comfortably ... obviously it does not look so good from the back. A design flaw that will not be repeated.

necklace - Half Persian 3-1 Chainmail

Half Persian 3-1 Chainmail Necklace

I am in the process of learning Chainmaille and this is my first Half-Persian 3-1 (HP 3-1) weave.

I was just playing around and the AR (aspect ratio) of the rings I used are way bigger than the recommended ARs as noted in the Chainmail Weaves List.

The AR Range for Half Persian 2-1 weave is : 3.9 - 4.3

I used a gold plated and copper jumprings with the follow specs:

	ID (Internal Diameter)	WD (Wire Diameter)	AR (Aspect Ratio)
Copper ring	6.05 mm	1 mm	6.05
Gold ring	5.9 mm	0.7 mm	8.429

So maybe the HP1-3 weave is not as it should be but it came out quite interesting anyway.

Pink Choker Earring set

This was one of my earlier play-around pieces. Made with pink seed beads (about size 6) and highlighted with Swarovski bicone crystals. It actually looks much better worn than in the pinks but alas ... not one of my favs and is now destined for the disassemble bin.
